ACCESS Assault Care Center is looking for a few exceptional people to serve on its Board of Directors.  We are hopeful that you are interested in being one of them.  We are looking for leaders with the abilities and commitment to enhance the stature of ACCESS, and who can bring skills, expertise, financial and other resources to ACCESS to further its mission. 

 

ACCESS is a domestic violence and sexual assault organization for Greene, Boone, Story Marshall, and Tama Counties.  In addition, we provide advocacy for survivors of homicide and other violent crimes. Our services for survivors include emergency housing, safety planning, legal advocacy, medical advocacy, youth advocacy and case management. ACCESS also has programing and initiatives to support social justice, violence prevention and community education. Our agency is constantly striving to balance the needs of the survivors we serve, a committed staff, and to network well within the community in order to provide the best services possible. Board Member Position Description:

Responsibilities of the Board:

  • Support ACCESS’ mission and purposes
  • Support the Executive Director and assess her or his performance
  • Participate in strategic planning
  • Organize and facilitate fundraising activities
  • Provide oversight of ACCESS’ budget and determine financial policy
  • Present ACCESS’ mission, accomplishments, and goals to the public
  • Ensure adherence to legal standards and ethical norms
  • Recruit and orient new board members and assess board performance

 Individual Board Member Responsibilities:

  •  Attend board and committee meetings, retreats, and functions, such as fundraising events
  • Make a significant (to the individual) personal financial commitment to ACCESS.
  • Know ACCESS’ mission, services, policies, and programs
  • Serve on committees and offer to take on special assignments
  • Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
  • Contribute creativity, skills, perspective, influence, resources, and associations
  • Consider voices not present or not represented
  • Participate in discussions, fulfill assignments, and contribute to orderly problem-solving and decision-making processes

Term: Three Year, with possibility for a second term.

  •  Ability and commitment to fulfill the responsibilities of board membership as listed
  • Experience and expertise that will help the organization meet its goals and objectives
  • Demonstrated interest in the mission and philosophy of the organization
