

Who We Are
TLC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, outdoor education and nature center that provides hands-on science and nature programs to nearly 5,000 students of all ages each year, as well as offering opportunities and space for everyone to connect with the natural world, to grow in understanding our relationship to the environment and to relax away from our usual routine. Centrally located in Zearing IA, we serve Story, Polk, Marshall, Hardin, Hamilton and Boone counties. We offer summer day camps; junior/senior high adventure trips to other localities in order to experience the biology, geology, culture and environment beyond central Iowa; family camps, exploring geology, astronomy, recreation, hiking and other outdoor activities in all seasons; a 9-hole putt-putt golfing course designed and developed by students; an after school program for upper elementary and middle school students; a fall festival; "wild" birthday parties for all ages, either for a few hours or overnight; guided hikes; a barn dormitory/dining hall/meeting space for organizations, corporations, churches, youth groups, scouts, senior citizens, family reunions, dance classes, scrapbooking workshops, graduation open houses, Prairie Cafe . . . Wednesday dinner for local residents . . . prepared and served by the after school participants, hunters, etc.

To provide a place where students of all ages can experience the natural world around them and understand their connection to and responsibility for this planet.
