The Ames Community Arts Council, a non-profit member-based organization created in 1976, is dedicated to celebrating the arts in Ames. Everyone is invited and encouraged to become a member; members include supporters of the arts, students, local artists of all kinds, Ames area businesses, and local art/cultural non-profit organizations. The Arts Council Board of Directors includes artists, business and community leaders, and other supporters of the arts. Many of the activities and services of the Arts Council are provided to the public free of charge. All activities and services are designed to: 1) build a stronger sense of community; 2) encourage participation in the arts at all levels from audience members to volunteers to professional artists; and/or 3) help artists succeed. For example, the Arts Council publishes a free weekly e-newsletter of upcoming arts and cultural events of members; the newsletter is available to anyone by request.
