Who We Are

The mission of NAMI Central Iowa (NAMICI) is to support, educate, and advocate for individuals living with mental illness and their family members at no charge to the participants. We provide NAMI resources across our mental health region in the following counties:  Greene, Boone, Story, Marshall, Hardin, Hamilton, Franklin, Jasper, Poweshiek, Madison and Warrne.

We serve all age groups. There are no eligibility requirements, other than being affected by mental illness in some way.

Support is offered in the form of weekly support groups (NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group) for individuals living with mental illness, a NAMI Family Support Group for family members, individual support at the office, emergency financial assistance, and programs offered at the Mental Health Wellness Center. General educational meetings for community members are held the third Tuesday of most months. Three different educational classes specifically designed for family members and individuals living with mental illness are regularly offered.

NAMI on Campus is a program that provides education and awareness targeted to students on the ISU Campus.

NAMI Central Iowa also advocates by contacting legislators on behalf of those affected by mental illness, and by being a part of the Story County Mental Health/Criminal Task Force, Opioid Task Force and other committees related to mental health across our conites. Our goal is to erase stigma and raise awareness that these biological and trauma induced illnesses can be effectively treated.

FREE:  All of our support groups and classes are provided at no charge.

We provide community presentations such as Ending-the-Silence and In Our Own Voice.

Our organization operates on the generous hearts of volunteers and donors.  To learn more, contact us today!
