Volunteer: Become a Mentor, Make a Difference!

YSS Mentoring Program

The YSS Mentoring Program is unique in the communities we serve, with 20 years of successfully matching children and mentors, creating life-changing—and often life-long—relationships. School-Based, and Residential Treatment/Shelter Based Mentoring options available. 

School-Based: 

Matches K-8 grade students in Ames, Ballard, Boone, Collins-Maxwell, Gilbert, Madrid, Nevada, Ogden Requires your commitment through the end of the school year with meetings for about an hour once a week during the child’s school day (8:30AM-3:30PM), typically over the child’s lunch/recess hour. 

Matched to Make a Difference 

You will be matched with a youth whose schedule and interests match with yours.  Opportunities to attend monthly match activities (ISU sporting event, games night, etc.). Many mentors continue with their mentees for longer than one year. This is a benefit for the mentee and the mentor! This commitment does allow you to take breaks for vacations and sick days. We hold the distinction of being certified by the Iowa Mentoring Partnership, which requires adherence to strict guidelines and best practices established by MENTOR, the National Mentoring Partnership.

Impact volunteers have a genuine interest working with youth, are patient and positive, engage in activities, and help youth develop positive peer and adult relationships by being a role model.

Shifts: MTR: 3:30pm-5:00pm | W: 1:30pm-5:00pm
Locations: Collins-Maxwell School and Colo-Nesco School

Impact Teen Club is a youth-driven program that promotes leadership opportunities, youth voice & choice, skill building activities, reflection, and relationships for 6th-8th graders in Collins-Maxwell and Colo-Nesco schools. A typical day starts after school with homework and snack, group game, and TOP lesson or Community Service Learning project.
