Who We Are

Every person deserves the opportunity for a full, healthy life. As champions for health equity, by 2024, the American Heart Association will advance cardiovascular health for all, including identifying and removing barriers to health care access and quality.

What We Do

To be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. The American Heart Association first and foremost is a science-based organization, which is why we focus on research so heavily to find solutions that will help people enjoy full, healthy lives. In fact, we’re the leading nonprofit funder of heart disease and stroke research outside the federal government. That research is applied to hospitals and health systems throughout the country through our quality of care programs, which provide the latest science-based treatment and prevention guidelines. The AHA protects the public’s health by partnering with volunteer advocates across the country. Our grassroots network of volunteers has helped make important changes to national, state and local laws and policies. Finally, our work in Emergency Cardiovascular care is critical to our lifesaving mission, teaching CPR and first aids to millions of health care professionals and individuals.
